Genuine Partnerships

We value our families as we strongly believe that ‘together we can do so much more’. They know their children the best and are a ‘fountain of knowledge’. To ensure that we make every member of our community feel heard and valued, we are committed to implementing ‘The Four Cornerstones Approach to Co-Production’.

We want families to feel welcomed and valued.

We will build trust by making the commitment to welcome and care, value and include, communicate and work in partnership with you:

We will welcome and care by:
• Providing a happy and secure environment or context
• Nurturing confidence, well-being and self-esteem
• Working together with you to build a supportive community
• Making sure your voice is heard and valued
• Responding with sensitivity
• Communicating expectations clearly
• Emphasising strengths and achievements
We will communicate with you openly, clearly and honestly by:
• Asking for your views and involvement
• Being available when people need to talk and making time to listen
• Listening calmly and respectfully
• Responding promptly and following up
• Reviewing regularly
• Providing all the information needed in a timely way, in a form that will be understood
• Striving to use positive and constructive language
We will value and include you in every aspect of what we do by:
• Identifying needs early, welcoming your involvement at every stage
• Having a ‘can do’ approach
• Making sure that all our practitioners have the right skills and understanding
• Sharing information about strengths and needs sensitively with relevant partners
• Being creative and flexible so that we can respond in the best way to individual strengths, needs and changing circumstances
• Involving all relevant partners in decision-making processes about referrals to others
• Encouraging all partners to contribute to the development of our values, systems and policies
We will work in partnership by:
• Encouraging participation
• Valuing your contributions as an equal partner
• Working together to develop plans, set targets and create and deliver specific programmes
• Involving you in decisions about organisational changes and improvements

Policy into Practice

How will we ensure that we fulfil this commitment?

Welcome and Care
As children arrive at school in their taxis they are welcomed by the Meet and Greet staff. All children are addressed by name and general information is shared about their well-being. If a child is noticeably distressed then a member of staff will be asked to support them and information is shared with relevant staff and parents/carers as necessary. This is also a time when staff make observations about a child’s appearance, uniform and demeanour.

Elements Academy is a welcoming school.
Value and Include
We work co-productively to allow each child to reach their potential. We believe that excellent working relationships with families are paramount to the success of a child and therefore invest in families through all we do. We invite Parents/Carers to have an active voice in the education of their children.

We aim to include Parents/Carers in decisions around their child’s provision both formally through review meetings and letters or informally, which could include; home visits, meetings in school, phone calls, and text messages. We know that Parents/Carers know their child best and will work closely to gather insight and develop strategies on how to best support the child.

We operate an open-door policy, where parents are welcome to get in touch to discuss their child.
Communicate
Family Support Workers communicate regularly with parents/carers by their preferred communication method. This may be by text, telephone, email or in person in the home. Information is shared about issues with their child in school and this can help a parent/carer to feel less anxious about the child’s life in school.

Other members of the school community will also communicate using the methods identified above.
Annual reviews will be held and progress reports will be sent to parents.
Work in Partnership
Each family is allocated a Family Support Worker who is a named worker. The family are visited at home as soon as possible after the child is accepted into the school and the Family Support Worker will provide details of their role and contact number. At this time, some family information is gathered which is used as a talking tool so that the parent/carer is able to share things which are important to them about their child/family that they wish to be known.

Family Support Workers work in partnership with all agencies that might be assigned to support a family or child. These may include Early Help Workers and Social Workers. Family Support Workers can often introduce a worker to a family which helps to build trust and facilitates honest and open communication. Family Support Workers communicate regularly with agencies and attend meetings such as Team Around the Family and Child in Need Meetings. Family Support Workers are also available to support families through statutory involvement by Social Care.

Details of local support agencies are regularly shared with Parents/Carers and this includes the services of the Rotherham Parent Carer Forum. Particularly, Parents/Carers are informed of the Peer Support Service of the Forum and about the activities that they run for children with additional needs. Parents/Carers have been accompanied by Family Support Workers to events run by the Forum.
